In October we took a long weekend to visit Shikoku. The island is located between the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean. There are four prefectures located there: Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime, and Kochi. On this trip we focused on the Tokushima prefecture. First first two nights we stayed at the Yamaya Base 2 camp. It was a great location and a little off the beaten path. We had beautiful mountain views and with a short walk you can take in the gorge. The first day we had a lazy morning before heading out to the Kuroso Marshland. It was the most beautiful and nerve racking drive we have had so far in Japan. It was green and magical in a fairytale sort of way but the road was so narrow that if you took your eyes off for a second you would be lost down the side. I wish I had a photo but we had to drive with the windows down to be able to look over the side to make sure we stayed on the road. Now is the road really that narrow? Yea, pretty much. But I can say after that road the Hubs feels comfortable driving on all the goat paths we have encounters since. Once you break through the forest the road widens and leads to a nice sized parking lot and a large map. dThe path starts off with a boardwalk. We doglegged a bit into a cedar forest before completing the path. Along the way there is a shrine, an observation tower with huge spiders, Tabinoshiri waterfall, and some beautiful ponds with lily pads. This was a great hike, pretty low key and not overwhelmingly stair-y (and you know how I feel about stairs). With the side hikes you can make a good afternoon at the Marsh. There isn't much there so definitely bring drinks and snacks!
